The Charente

The Charente region owes its name to the river which crosses it. The Charente river has its source in Chéronnac, in Haute-Vienne, and then meanders through the departments of Charente, Vienne and Charente-Maritime, over 381 kilometers, to its mouth in the Atlantic Ocean. .

This region borders with Deux sèvres,   Vienne, Dordogne and Charente Maritime.

The oceanic climate gives it fairly high average sunshine, which allows residents to enjoy the sea for several months of the year. The department is also distinguished by the interior of its lands, its impressive classified and preserved Poitevin marshes and its old villages.
